    0:31 "I don't think I've ever seen that move performed by a woman". Other gymnasts had done it previously and Silivas did in 1988 Olympics, in front of the broadcasting cameras.

    Such a shame she never made it to the Olympics, she easily could’ve won the beam title. What caused her not to go, injuries?

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 25 дней назад

      @@monica012077 I said BEAM title, not AA. And in terms of Tatiana Gutsu? Her gold will always be tainted by dishonesty and biased scoring. If you’re referring to Tatiana LYSENKO… then perhaps not.

    • @monica012077
      @monica012077 25 дней назад

      @saragrant9749 I'm not sure of the titles or the drama behind the scenes. Her beam routine was amazing and she stuck the very difficult landing. The announcers called it the mother of all beam routines.

    • @saragrant9749
      @saragrant9749 25 дней назад

      @@monica012077 Olesia was indeed wonderful on beam. I never saw anyone stick more triple twist dismounts- and that’s a very hard one to stick just ONCE, let alone frequently. I loved her aerial to two back layouts, there was just something so smooth about it. She was really the first I saw incorporate huge difficulty into a beam routine. I know in an interview years later that she stated- after being injured- she just never could get it all back (particularly mentally). Sometimes that’s how it turns out, even for the best.

    I don’t think Olga changing coaches really had that much to do with her performance at the 76 Olympics. Between the 72 and 76 games, the Soviet Union constantly had her on the road doing non-stop exhibitions as part of this huge PR tour. She barely even had the time to be in the gym and I think if the Soviet government had allowed her to get back in the gym and focus solely on her training then she would’ve done better at those games. And honestly, even if Olga were to have gotten a perfect 10 at those games, I don’t see how she could’ve lived up to both the hype of her previous performance and that of the new kid on the block, Nadia. I mean the media had Nadia fever to the point that Olga’s own teammate Nellie Kim also scored a perfect 10 at those games and it hardly got any attention by the press. Regardless of whether or not she had the same coach, the 76 games were always going to be Nadia’s to win. Plus, a silver on beam and a team gold are still really impressive so I wouldn’t look at her performance as any sort of failure, especially considering how cutthroat it was to even make the Olympic team in the first place.

    It’s called PUBERTY “when they gain that hight and weight.” And it can take a while for your body and mind to adjust to your new woman’s body. You go from being a prepubescent little GIRL to being a young WOMAN, and not just all the physical changes, hormones too. It’s not easy, and especially when they were allowed to talk to the world about “how much weight she’s gained “. No wonder she literally stopped eating, and tried to get back down to her prepubescent weight again! Did anyone even explain to her about the changes a girl has to go through to become a woman?!?
